Swati Maliwal reports receiving death threats following YouTuber Dhruv Rathee’s video
PTC News Desk: Following a “character assassination” campaign purportedly carried out by party officials and volunteers, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal claimed on Sunday that she has been the target of rape and death threats.
She claimed that following the release of a biased video by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee criticizing her, things became more heated.
“I have been receiving threats of rape and death after the leaders and volunteers of my party, the AAP, staged a campaign of victim shaming, character assassination, and stoking emotions against me. When YouTuber @Dhruv_Rathee posted a biased video against me, it made matters worse,” Ms. Maliwal wrote on X (previously Twitter) on Sunday.
The party leadership, according to Swati Maliwal, is attempting to scare her into taking down her complaint. She also conveyed her dissatisfaction with Dhruv Rathee, stating that she tried to get in touch with him and tell him her side of the event, but he didn’t return her calls or messages
She went on, “It is disgusting that individuals like him, who identify as independent journalists, could behave like other AAP spokespeople and victim-shame me to the point where I am now receiving severe abuse and threats.”
Ms. Maliwal enumerated a number of issues that she believed were overlooked in the 2.5-minute film by Dhruv Rathee:
She stated that Dhruv Rathee omitted to mention the following: the reasons behind the AAP’s turnabout after acknowledging the incident; the MLC report, which shows injuries sustained during the assault; the fact that only a portion of the video was made public before the accused’s phone was formatted; and the fact that the accused was taken into custody from the crime scene (CM house). Why was he permitted to re-enter the building? For falsifying evidence? How could the BJP win over a woman who always supported the right causes and even traveled to Manipur by herself without any protection?
“Their approach to women’s concerns is evident in the way the party apparatus and its adherents have endeavored to demonize and disgrace me. I’m reporting to @DelhiPolice these threats of rape and death. Maliwal remarked, “I hope they take strong action against the perpetrators.”
“In any case, if something happens to me, we know who instigated it,” she said in closing.
In relation to the attack on Maliwal on May 13 at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s home, Bibhav Kumar was taken into custody on May 18.
Former Kejriwal PS Mr. Kumar filed a bail request with the local court on Saturday. Delhi Police has been notified by the court, and it has requested a response.
