PM Modi commends Sudha Murty’s maiden Rajya Sabha speech on women’s health
PTC News Desk: Today, Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murty received appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for her first-ever speech in the House. Ms. Murty discussed women’s health on Tuesday during the Rajya Sabha’s debate of the motion of thanks on the President’s Address.
She cited her father when she noted that although a mother’s death is recorded as one in the hospital, the family loses a mother forever.
As the novelist and philanthropist Sudha Murty got up to meet him, Prime Minister Modi said, “I want to thank Sudha Murty for speaking in detail about women’s health.”
He claimed that his government has prioritized women’s health and sanitation as a “priority sector” for the past ten years, alluding to Ms. Murty’s “emotional” comment about moms.
“We have built toilets, and our country’s women have benefited from them,” Prime Minister Modi stated in response to a resolution during which she thanked President Droupadi Murmu for her speech to the joint session of Parliament last week.
He added that sanitary pads have been distributed and a vaccination program for expectant mothers has been started.

Sudha Murty’s Maiden Speech In Rajya Sabha
In order to prevent cervical cancer, Sudha Murty advocated for a government-sponsored immunization program.
“A vaccination known as the cervical vaccination is administered to girls between the ages of nine and fourteen. In her inaugural speech to the Rajya Sabha, she stated, “If the girls take that, it (cancer) can be avoided… we should promote vaccination for our girls’ benefit because prevention is better than cure.”
Giving the cervical immunization to females between the ages of 9 and 14 may not be too problematic because the government managed a very “big vaccination drive during Covid,” the official said.
On the eve of International Women’s Day, Ms. Murty, who was nominated to the upper house by President Droupadi Murmu, stated that the cervical vaccination was created in the West and has been in use for the past 20 years.
“It performed flawlessly. It is not pricey. For those in the field like me, it is currently Rs 1,400. You can raise it to ₹ 700–800 if the government steps in and engages in negotiations. We have so many people living here. It will help our girls in the future,” she stated in her thirteen-minute speech.
