Milk prices rise in Punjab and nationwide: Verka and Amul increase rates by Rs 2

PTC News Desk: Amul milk has increased in price by Rs 2 per litre for all kinds. The price rise is going to take effect on Monday, June 3.

According to the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the rise in production and operating expenses is the reason behind the recent hike in Amul milk pricing.

As a result, every market in the nation would see an increase in the price of the Amul milk packet by Rs 2 per litre. The price of milk was last increased by GCMMF in February 2023.

As per Jayen Mehta, MD of GCMMF, the company that sells milk and dairy products under the ‘Amul’ brand, the boost is required to make up for the higher production costs for farmers.

Following the most recent increase, the 500 ml Amul buffalo milk, 500 ml Amul Gold milk, and 500 ml Amul Shakti milk have their prices adjusted to Rs 36, Rs 33, and Rs 30, respectively.

“The Rs 2 per litre increase corresponds to an MRP increase of approximately 3–4%, which is significantly less than the average inflation rate for food. It is important to remember that Amul hasn’t raised the cost of fresh pouch milk in any significant markets since February 2023, according to a statement from GCMMF.

It further stated that the increase in the total cost of operation and milk production is the reason for this price increase.

According to GCMMF, Amul distributes around 80 paise of each rupee that customers pay for milk and milk products to milk producers. “The price revision shall help in sustaining remunerative milk prices to our milk producers and to encourage them for higher milk production,” it stated.
