Election Commission directs AAP to amend election campaign song
PTC News Desk: The Election Commission of India has instructed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to revise its campaign song for the Lok Sabha elections. The commission emphasized that the content of the song must adhere to the Advertising Codes outlined in the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, and the Election Commission’s guidelines.
In a notice issued to Delhi’s ruling party, the Election Commission requested the submission of the campaign song for re-certification after necessary modifications.
The commission highlighted that certain elements within the campaign song appeared to cast doubt on the judiciary, a violation of both ECI guidelines and Advertising Codes.
Specifically, the phrase “jail ke jawaab me hum vote denge” (We will vote in response to imprisonment) accompanied by an image of Arvind Kejriwal depicted behind bars with an aggressive crowd, was singled out. The Election Commission deemed this portrayal as derogatory towards the judiciary. Moreover, the repetition of this phrase throughout the advertisement was cited as a violation of ECI Guidelines and Rule 6(1(g) of Programme and Advertising Codes as per the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994.
