Zomato CEO reveals father’s skepticism: ‘Jaanta hai tera baap kaun hai?’ in response to startup idea

PTC News Desk: Deepinder Goyal, the CEO of Zomato, recently told a humorous and enlightening tale about the early stages of his company adventure. Speaking at an event hosted by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri at Vishesh Sampark, Goyal revealed his father’s first response to his company concept.
On social media, a clip of Goyal’s speech has become very popular. In the video, he talks about how his father questioned his decision to create Zomato in 2008, 16 years ago. “My father told me that I couldn’t start a startup when I told him about Zomato, saying, ‘Janta hai tera baap kaun hai.'” This was the way of thinking, coming from a tiny town in Punjab’ Muktsar, Goyal said.

“My father used to remark, ‘tu janta hai tera baap kaun hai,’ when I launched Zomato in 2008 because he believed that, given our lowly background, I could never succeed as a start-up. A tiny town lad like me was able to create something like Zomato, which now employs lakhs of people, thanks to this government’s initiatives! peruses the caption.
Held on May 20 at Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s home, the event brought together IT specialists, entrepreneurs, thinkers, and innovators from throughout the country.
This year, Deepinder Goyal wed Grecia Munoz, a model, and appeared as a judge on Shark Tank India’s third season. Many in the entrepreneurial community are still motivated by his accomplishments and stories.
