Yellow alert in Rajasthan: State gripped by heatwave as temperatures soar above 44 degrees celsius

PTC News Desk: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Jaipur has raised a yellow alert and issued heatwave warnings across Rajasthan, with temperatures soaring beyond 44 degrees Celsius in various districts.

According to the weather department, temperatures are expected to rise further over the next three days, particularly in Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Bharatpur divisions. It is anticipated that temperatures in these divisions may escalate by 2-3 degrees Celsius within the next two to three days. Some districts, including Jaipur, Jaisalmer, and Sri Ganganagar, have already recorded temperatures surpassing 44 degrees Celsius.

Earlier this month, on May 7, Barmer recorded the highest temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius for the day. Similarly, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, and Ganganagar have also experienced temperatures exceeding 44 degrees Celsius. In the Bikaner division, temperatures are expected to range between 44 and 45 degrees Celsius.

The scorching heatwave has significantly impacted daily life, leading to reduced traffic on roads during the afternoon as people opt to stay indoors. Residents are taking precautions to cope with the intense heat, such as carrying water bottles and covering themselves with dupattas when venturing outside.

Raqam, a local resident, expressed the challenges of stepping out in the intense heatwave, emphasising the importance of staying hydrated and protected from the sun’s rays.

Another resident named Rajiv highlighted Rajasthan’s enduring struggle with severe heatwaves and suggested measures to mitigate its effects, including staying hydrated, consuming watery and seasonal fruits, and drinking buttermilk and juices.

The meteorological department has forecasted prevailing heat conditions in Rajasthan for the next 3-4 days, with western Rajasthan expected to experience a further rise in temperatures.
