Weather updates: IMD forecasts heatwave relief in north India within 2 days, predicts rain for Bengal and other states
PTC News Desk: The heatwave conditions over northwest, central, and east India will progressively lessen over the next two days, according to a statement released by the India Meteorological Department on Saturday.
In its most recent prognosis, the meteorological service stated that “gradual fall in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C very likely over northwest & east India during next 2-3 days and no significant change thereafter.” Over the next five days, there is a good chance of a progressive drop in maximum temperatures of 2-3°C over Central India, according to the IMD.

Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi, West and East Uttar Pradesh, West and East Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha are predicted to experience a steady drop in temperature.
There has been a severe heatwave affecting most of these states in north and central India, with temperatures in many cities reaching above 45 degrees Celsius.
At least 40 suspected heat-related deaths were recorded on Friday, with 25 of them being employees who were assigned to poll watch for the Lok Sabha in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The heatwave affected a significant portion of the nation.
The highest temperature in the nation was 48.2, according to the Kanpur (IAF) meteorological station. Sirsa in Haryana, with 47.8 degrees Celsius, was the second hottest location. The highest temperature ever recorded in Delhi was 47 degrees Celsius in Ayanagar.
The greatest temperature recorded in the nation on Wednesday was 52.9°C at Mungeshpur, according to IMD’s daily evening bulletin, however it was later removed.
Rain is expected throughout the southern peninsula and northeastern India
The weather service predicted that isolated pockets of heavy to extremely heavy rain will likely persist throughout northeastern India and the south peninsula of India during the next four to five days.
Over the next seven days, there is a chance of light to moderate rainfall that is very widespread, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Over the next five days, it also predicted light to moderate rainfall that would be scattered to fairly widespread, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) across Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Konkan, and Goa.
It went on, “Over the next five days, isolated very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over Kerala & Mahe.”
