Uttarakhand landslide: Body of woman trapped under building debris pulled out, search on for daughter
Tehri Garhwal (Uttarakhand), July 27: Rescue teams recovered the body of a woman buried under debris following a landslide in Ghansali, Uttarakhand, on Saturday. The landslide, triggered by heavy rain, caused the collapse of a home in village Toli, trapping the woman and her daughter.
The disaster control room was alerted around 3 am about the incident, which occurred at approximately 1:30 am. Responding swiftly, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Tehsildar, Patwari, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Public Works Department (PWD), Nagarpalika team, and health services reached the scene.
Led by Chief Constable Kuldeep Singh from Post Ghansali, the SDRF team initiated the rescue operation. “During an intensive search by SDRF and District Police, the body of Sarita Devi, who was buried in the debris, has been recovered,” stated the SDRF. Efforts are ongoing to locate her daughter.
This incident follows another landslide on Thursday, when the Uttarakhand Police cleared debris near Gulabkoti on the Badrinath National Highway. The highway had been blocked due to landslides caused by continuous rain in Chamoli district.
Recent heavy rains in Uttarakhand have triggered multiple landslides, blocking the Badrinath Highway at several points and causing significant disruptions. Further updates on the ongoing rescue operations are awaited.
