Uttar Pradesh: Kanpur couple scams Rs 35 crore from elderly with phony ‘age-reversing’ machine
PTC News Desk: A couple in Kanpur has allegedly scammed over two dozen elderly individuals out of a staggering Rs 35 crore by promoting a fraudulent scheme involving a so-called “Israel-made time machine” designed to reverse aging, as reported by The Times of India.
Rashmi and Rajeev Dubey, the couple behind this bizarre scheme, established a therapy center named Revival World in Kidwai Nagar. They lured potential clients with the promise of “oxygen therapy” inside their purported time machine, claiming it could restore youth and counteract the effects of aging and pollution.
The couple particularly targeted older individuals, asserting that the high pollution levels in Kanpur had prematurely aged them, and that their therapy could provide an instant youthful appearance.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anjali Vishwakarma informed The Times of India that each session within the supposed time machine was priced at Rs 90,000. The scheme evolved into a pyramid structure, wherein clients could receive discounts by referring others, effectively expanding their clientele through deceptive means.
One of the victims, Renu Singh Chandel, recounted her experience, explaining that she was offered a free session for introducing additional clients, which led her to bring several others for treatment. The police have so far documented 25 cases related to this fraudulent operation, with an estimated Rs 35 crore extorted from elderly victims. Authorities anticipate that more individuals may come forward as the investigation continues.
In response to the growing number of complaints, police are actively working to identify additional victims of the scam and are currently searching for the Dubeys. An FIR has been filed against them, and local airports have been notified to prevent any potential attempts by the couple to flee the country.
