Uttar Pradesh: 11 married women allegedly flee with lovers after receiving money from Centre’s Awas Yojana: Reports
PTC News Desk: The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) programme of the national government, which helps middle-class and impoverished families construct a permanent house, is allegedly being abused by a number of Uttar Pradeshi women.
As many as eleven women from the Maharajganj area of Uttar Pradesh are said to have taken the first installment of Rs 40,000 from the government under the PMAY scheme, left their husbands, and absconded with their partners, according to media sources. The husbands whose wives absconded with their lovers reported the occurrence to the police, which led to the discovery of the incidence.
According to News18, some 2,350 recipients in the Maharajganj district recently got funds under the PMAY programme. The villages of Thuthibari, Sheetlapur, Chatia, Ramnagar, Bakul Diha, Khasra, Kishunpur, and Medhauli are allegedly home to the beneficiaries.
According to certain media reports, officials have decided to stop paying the beneficiaries’ second installment as a result of this incident.

The government helps middle-class and impoverished families construct a permanent house through the PMAY programme. In addition, the government offers a subsidy of up to Rs 2.5 lakh, contingent on the income of the family. Authorities have the right to demand the beneficiaries return any funds if there are any anomalies.
Similar events occurred in Uttar Pradesh the previous year, when four married women fled their homes with their partners following their receipt of funds from the PMAY initiative. The four women allegedly fled as soon as a Rs 50,000 grant appeared in their bank accounts.
When the authorities discovered that their dwellings’ construction had not started, they became aware of this incidence. Additionally, authorities issued a warning and mandated that construction on their home start right away, but they got no answer or progress. The District Urban Development Agency then sent a warning to their spouses (DUDA).
