PTC News Desk: According to the Indian External Affairs Ministry, Indian students enrolled in US universities are being deported back to their home countries without any justification. In the last three years, the US has deported 48 students to India without having any justification for doing so.
The information was provided to Parliament on Friday by Kirti Vardhan Singh, the Minister of State for External Affairs.
US deports Indian students without explanation
There has been a noticeable trend in recent years of Indian students moving overseas for education, with the US ranking highly on their list of preferred destinations. It was noted, nevertheless, that a few pupils had been abruptly returned to their native nation.
This problem was brought up by BK Parthasarathi on Friday in the Lok Sabha when he questioned External Affairs about the total number of students the USA has deported over the previous three years and the rationale for the deportations.
As reported by Onmanorama and the official website of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, he also inquired as to whether the Government held any information regarding the undocumented migrants dispersed throughout the world, particularly in the US, and if so, what corrective measures were implemented in this regard.

Ministry of External Affairs responds
In response, Kirti Vardhan Singh, who was also present during the Lok Sabha session, stated that 48 situations involving students of Indian nationality having been sent back over the previous three years had occurred, but the US authorities had not formally disclosed their reasoning to the Indian government.
He did, however, clarify that “unauthorised employment, unapproved withdrawal from classes, expulsion and suspension, and failure to report Optional Practical Training (OPT) employments” are among the potential causes of the deportation of Indian students. These reasons may result in the cancellation of a student’s visa, making their stay in the nation unlawful.
In response to the subsequent queries, she said that the Indian government is attempting to strengthen ties between the two nations in order to enable their residents’ legal travel. At both the federal and state levels, the government is enforcing laws against individuals engaged in illegal immigration and teaching its populace about safe and authorised travel to other countries.
