Supreme Court grants major relief to Adani ports over 108 hectares of land in Gujarat
PTC News Desk: Adani Ports was much relieved when the Gujarat High Court’s order to retrieve 108 hectares of grazing property that had been granted to the ports company was halted by the Supreme Court today. This area is in the Kachchh district, close to the port of Mundra.
The Gujarati government’s response to the subject has been requested by the Supreme Court.
The issue dates back to 2005, when Adani Ports was given the 108 hectares. When Adani Ports & SEZ began fencing the area in 2010, the people of Navinal village filed a Public Interest Litigation with the high court, contesting Adani Ports’ allocation of 231 hectares of grazing land.
They contended that this allotment would leave them with only 45 acres, and the hamlet was already short on grazing space.
The state administration claimed that an order approving 387 hectares of government land for grazing had been passed, and the court resolved the matter in 2014.

When that failed to occur, a petition for contempt was submitted. The state administration informed the court in a review petition filed in 2015 that the village panchayat could only be given 17 hectares. The state government suggested allocating the remaining land, which is located roughly seven kilometers away. The locals disagreed, claiming that the distance is too great for livestock to graze.
A senior revenue officer was tasked by the court in April of this year to find a solution. The official replied that about 108 hectares, or 266 acres, of land that had been granted to Adani Ports in 2005 were to be reclaimed by the state government.
According to the revenue department, the state will add government property to the tract that was reclaimed from Adani Power in order to “replenish” the people. The state government was then asked to put this into effect by the High Court.
