Supreme Court denies DK Shivakumar’s request to dismiss CBI case against him: ‘Sorry, dismissed’
PTC News Desk: On Monday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a complaint against Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar in relation to suspected disproportionate assets. The Supreme Court denied Shivakumar’s request to have the case dismissed.
A bench consisting of Justices Bela M. Trivedi and SC Sharma said that it has no intention of overturning the Karnataka High Court’s ruling. “I apologise. Rejected,” the bench declared.
In response to the news, DK Shivakumar declared, “The Bharatiya Janata Party is the one responsible for all of the scams.” People have thrown aside schemes that originated under the BJP rule since they are the father of them. We are now attempting to tidy things. They can’t process this since their names will be revealed.
DK Shivakumar filed a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the Karnataka High Court’s October 19, 2023, ruling that denied his request.

The CBI was also ordered by the high court to wrap up the inquiry and submit the report in three months. According to the CBI, DK Shivakumar accumulated assets between 2013 and 2018 that were out of proportion to his known sources of income. During this time, he served as a minister in the preceding Congress administration.
On September 3, 2020, the CBI filed the FIR. In 2021, DK Shivakumar filed a high court challenge against the FIR.
The rulings made by the Congress administration on November 28, 2023, which prohibited the CBI from looking into Shivakumar’s assets, and on December 26, 2023, have been contested by the CBI.
Initially, a single high court judge heard the CBI case and a related plea filed by BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal. However, because of the intricate legal issues at hand, the judge on January 5, 2024, referred the matter to the Chief Justice of Karnataka in order to assign it to a larger bench.

Based on approval from the previous BJP government on September 25, 2019, the CBI filed a disproportionate assets case against Shivakumar on October 3, 2020. This came about as a result of a referral from the Directorate of Enforcement about corruption allegations that surfaced during an Income Tax investigation.
Following a cabinet decision on November 23, 2023, the Congress government—which took over from the BJP in Karnataka in May 2023—retracted the consent it had granted in 2019. The case was forwarded to the CBI in 2019, according to the Congress, even before a formal complaint was filed in 2020.
