Shots fired at Kamala Harris’s campaign office in Arizona during poll season
PTC News Desk: Shots were fired at the election campaign office of Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, in Tempe, Arizona, marking the second attack on the location within a month. The incident occurred late Monday night, following a previous incident where the office’s front windows were shot at with a pellet gun.
According to a statement from the Tempe Police, damage from gunfire was discovered at the Democratic National Committee office. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. Tempe Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Ryan Cook noted that the office was unoccupied at the time of the shooting, but he expressed concern for the safety of the employees and nearby residents.
Local news outlets shared footage showing two bullet holes in a door and two more in the office windows. Law enforcement is currently investigating the incident, with detectives analyzing evidence collected from the scene.
In response to the shooting, police have implemented additional security measures for the campaign office staff and those in the vicinity. Yolanda Bejarano, Chairwoman of the Arizona Democratic Party, confirmed the incident and expressed her dismay, stating, “It’s extremely sad that the Arizona Democratic Party has become the target of violence—it’s not who we are as Arizonans or Americans.” She emphasized that they are cooperating with law enforcement to ensure the safety of their staff.
This shooting comes just days before Harris is scheduled to visit Arizona on Friday, where she is expected to tour the U.S.-Mexico border. The Tempe office is one of 18 field offices set up for her campaign in Arizona.
Notably, this incident follows a recent assassination attempt on Harris’s Republican rival, Donald Trump, who narrowly escaped an attack at his golf club in Florida earlier this month. The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Ryan Routh, who was reportedly supported by Democrats, was arrested shortly after the incident.
