Sania Mirza-Mohammed Shami wedding rumors: Tennis icon’s father Imran responds strongly

PTC News Desk: Mohammed Shami and Sania Mirza are two of the most accomplished athletes the nation has produced in recent memory. While Shami is a champion pace bowler and helped propel the Indian cricket team into the final of the ODI World Cup 2023, Sania is the best women’s tennis player in India. There was a rumor that Mohammed Shami and Sania Mirza were getting married recently. 

Shami and his wife Hasin Jahan are not together, just as Sania and Pakistani cricket player Shoaib Malik separated earlier this year. 

But the rumors about the wedding are untrue. “This is all rubbish,” Imran, Sania Mirza’s father, said. She isn’t even familiar with him.”

Sania Mirza, a tennis legend from India, just left for the holy Hajj, almost five months after she announced her divorce from cricketer husband Shoaib Malik. Sania, who has also hung up her tennis racket, was most recently a commentator for the 2024 French Open. The Indian sports legend took to social media to share that she is currently preparing for a “transformative experience” from which she expects to emerge a better person.

“As I prepare for this transformative experience, I humbly ask for your forgiveness for any wrongdoings and shortcomings,” Sania wrote in a social media post on Sunday.

Sania went on to say that she hoped Allah would hear her prayers and lead her along this fortunate road.

“I am extremely fortunate and feel incredibly grateful,” she continued. When I set out on my once-in-a-lifetime excursion, do remember me in your prayers and thoughts. I want to return a stronger Imaan and a better person with a humble heart.”

Sania was recently seen talking to comedian Kapil Sharma on a well-known comedy show about her illustrious career, particularly her collaboration with Martina Hingis from 2015 to 2016.

“I think all of the women sitting on this couch can understand this…when you hit a streak (winning back-to-back), athletes like to call it being ‘In the zone,'” Sania said during the discussion. To be honest, I believe that sums up Martina and I over those six months the best.”
