SAD expels SGPC member Bibi Harjinder Kaur for ‘anti-party activities’ in Chandigarh
PTC News Desk: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has made a decisive move by expelling Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member, Bibi Harjinder Kaur, from the primary membership of the party, citing her involvement in anti-party activities.
The decision was promptly enforced by the party’s secretary general, S. Balwinder Singh Bhundur, after receiving numerous complaints from the SAD’s Chandigarh unit regarding Kaur’s deliberate efforts to undermine the party’s interests in the union territory.
The catalyst for Kaur’s expulsion was her unilateral support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Sanjay Tandon, which was deemed as a clear violation of party principles. Bhundur emphasised that this action was not taken lightly, as evidence, including video documentation, corroborated Kaur’s anti-party actions.
Moreover, this wasn’t the first instance of her deviation from the party’s stance, as there were prior complaints alleging her collusion with the BJP in exchange for significant positions within their ranks.
Bhundur expressed disappointment over Kaur’s disregard for party ideology and principles, highlighting the betrayal of the sentiments of Punjabis and the Sikh community, especially in light of the ongoing agrarian issues and the incarceration of Bandi Singhs. He stressed that Kaur’s actions not only defied the party’s directives but also reflected poorly on her integrity as a senior leader.
The decision to expel Kaur was made after thorough deliberation and consultation with the Chandigarh unit of the party, which voiced unanimous support for such disciplinary action. Bhundur also acknowledged reports suggesting inducements from the BJP aimed at luring party members to defect during the parliamentary elections.
Amidst these challenges, Bhundur commended the unity displayed by the Chandigarh unit and affirmed that the entire party stood firmly behind Sukhbir Singh Badal, the party president, in making appropriate decisions regarding the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat. The expulsion of Kaur serves as a stern warning against betraying party loyalty and underscores the SAD’s commitment to upholding its principles and interests.
