Russia drowning tragedy | ‘Come out of river water’, pleaded Pinjari siblings family on video call before horrific incident
Russia drowning tragedy | A devastating incident sent shockwaves through both the Indian and Russian communities as four Indian students from Jalgaon district in Maharashtra who were studying in a university in Russia drowned in the Volkhov river there.
The students, pursuing their academic aspirations far from home, met an untimely end in a foreign land, adding that a fifth student has been safely rescued.
The External Affairs Ministry has identified the four students who tragically drowned as Jia Pinjari, Jishan Pinjari, Mohammad Yakub Malik, and Harshal Desalei.
Hailing from Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, Jishan and Jia were siblings from Amalner, while Harshal Desale belonged to Bhadgaon.
According to a family member, the tragic incident unfolded when Jishan made a video call to his family while they were in the Volkhov river. His family, desperately pleading for them to come out of the water, witnessed the horrifying moment when a strong wave swept them away.
In response to the tragic incident, the Embassy urged Indian students in Russia to be extremely careful while going to beaches, rivers, lakes, ponds and other water bodies. Students are advised to take all necessary precautions and safety measures in this regard.
“We offer our condolences to the families. The search for the remaining two missing students continues,” the external affairs ministry said.
“We are working to send the bodies to the relatives as soon as possible. Proper treatment is also being provided to the student whose life has been saved,” the Indian Embassy in Moscow said in a post on X
The loss of these bright young minds is a poignant reminder of the fragility of human existence and the need for greater awareness and safety measures, especially for those studying abroad.
The hearts of many are heavy with sorrow as they mourn the lives lost in this heartbreaking incident.
Notably, in the year 2023 there were two incidents and in 2022, there were six cases of death of Indian students by drowning.
