Punjab paddy procurement kick-starts today
PTC News Desk: Paddy procurement in Patiala district is set to commence today, with all necessary arrangements completed across the district’s 109 mandis (markets). District Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav inspected the procurement preparations at the Rajpura grain market earlier today, ensuring that everything is in place for a smooth operation.
Dr. Yadav announced that approximately 14.04 lakh metric tons of paddy are expected to arrive during this procurement season. To accommodate this volume, extensive preparations have been made, including the establishment of 109 mandis and 126 temporary yards throughout the district.
During her visit, Dr. Yadav engaged with farmers and commission agents to discuss the upcoming season and address any concerns. She expressed gratitude to the farmers for their cooperation in stubble management efforts from the previous year, highlighting the importance of collaborative agricultural practices.
To ensure a comfortable experience for farmers visiting the mandis, the District Commissioner confirmed that essential facilities have been put in place. These include cleanliness measures, access to drinking water, sanitation facilities, lighting, fans, and tarpaulins. The goal is to provide a welcoming environment that minimizes any challenges for farmers during the procurement process.
With these comprehensive arrangements, Patiala district is well-prepared to support its farmers in the upcoming paddy procurement season.
