PM Modi in Singapore: India and Singapore sign MoUs to boost cooperation in semiconductors and digital technology
PTC News Desk: India and Singapore on Wednesday solidified their bilateral partnership by signing key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in areas including digital technology, semiconductors, health cooperation, and skill development. These agreements aim to further deepen the collaboration between the two nations in strategically important sectors.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on an official visit to Singapore, held bilateral talks with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Following these discussions, the MoUs were signed in the presence of ministers and senior officials from both countries.
Digital Technology Partnership
The first MoU was signed between India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information. This agreement will promote cooperation in cutting-edge digital technologies such as cybersecurity, 5G, and emerging fields like supercomputing, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Additionally, this MoU will focus on upskilling and reskilling workers in both nations within the digital sector, ensuring that both countries remain competitive in the rapidly evolving global tech landscape.
Semiconductor Ecosystem Collaboration
Another significant MoU was signed between India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry. This agreement focuses on fostering collaboration in the semiconductor industry, including the development of semiconductor clusters and nurturing talent in semiconductor design and manufacturing.
With Singaporean companies deeply integrated into the global semiconductor value chain, the MoU will create a platform for investment in India, supporting the country’s ambitions to become a key player in the global semiconductor market.
Health and Medical Cooperation
India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Singapore’s Ministry of Health signed an MoU to collaborate in health and medicine. This agreement will pave the way for joint research and innovation in areas of mutual interest and support human resource development in healthcare and pharmaceuticals.
The MoU also enhances opportunities for Indian healthcare professionals in Singapore, promoting the exchange of knowledge and skills in the medical field. This cooperation is set to benefit both nations by addressing shared healthcare challenges and advancing medical research.

Skills Development and Educational Cooperation
A fourth MoU was signed between India’s Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Singapore’s Ministry of Education. This agreement seeks to boost cooperation in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), expanding on existing initiatives between the two countries in skill development.
With both nations already engaged in active collaboration on vocational education, this MoU will further enhance opportunities for individuals to develop skills that meet the demands of evolving industries.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi signed the visitor’s book at Singapore’s Parliament House. Following the signing of the MoUs, PM Modi and Deputy PM Wong met with ministers and delegates from both countries, reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening the partnership between India and Singapore.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Singapore includes several key engagements, aimed at enhancing diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations. These new agreements underscore the commitment of India and Singapore to work closely on mutual goals, leveraging each other’s strengths in technology, healthcare, education, and semiconductors.
