Patiala law university students continue in protests against vice-chancellor
PTC News Desk: Students at the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) continued their protests into a second day on Monday, demanding the removal of Vice-Chancellor Jai Shankar Singh. The students have pledged to boycott classes until their demands are met.
The protests were triggered by an incident that occurred on Sunday afternoon, during which the Vice-Chancellor allegedly entered the university’s girls’ hostel without permission. According to student accounts, Singh initially visited the hostel mess for an inspection and then proceeded to inspect individual rooms, disregarding the privacy and consent of the female students present.
Students reported that during his visit, Singh made inappropriate remarks regarding the attire of some girls, which sparked outrage among the students. “He crossed a line that many of us found unacceptable,” said one student who chose to remain anonymous.

In response to the incident, students organised a sit-in (dharna) on the campus, chanting slogans demanding the Vice-Chancellor’s resignation. They have made it clear that they will continue their protests and refuse to leave the dharna site until significant action is taken against Singh.
Local police officials arrived at the university after receiving reports about the ongoing protests, but the students remained steadfast in their demands. The situation at RGNUL continues to unfold as students advocate for their rights and call for accountability from the university administration.
