Nirmal Singh Bhangoo, kingpin of the Pearls group scam, passes away
PTC News Desk: Nirmal Singh Bhangoo, the key figure behind the infamous Pearls Group scam, passed away in Delhi on Sunday night. Bhangoo, who headed the Pearls Group of companies, was the main accused in the massive fraud case that saw approximately Rs 45,000 crore swindled from investors.
In January 2016, Bhangoo was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his role in orchestrating one of India’s largest financial scams, which involved deceiving millions of investors. Since his arrest, Bhangoo had been detained in Tihar Jail, where he awaited trial.
On Sunday, Bhangoo was reportedly rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital in Delhi, where he was declared dead at 7:50 p.m. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and further details are awaited.
