NEET-UG 24 exam results to be published by 12 noon on July 20: Supreme Court

NEET-UG 24 exam results: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish the NEET-UG exam results city-wise and centre-wise on their website by 12 noon on Saturday. The NTA has been instructed to ensure that the candidates’ identities are masked.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra was hearing a series of petitions regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam. During the hearing, senior advocate Narendra Hooda, representing the petitioner, argued for the results of all students to be declared to ensure transparency.

However, the Solicitor General countered that the entire results are not typically published as they are considered the personal property of the students. In response, CJI Chandrachud questioned, “Why can’t you have dummy roll numbers in a sequence centre-wise?”

After hearing arguments from both sides, the Supreme Court instructed the NTA to publish the marks obtained by students in the NEET-UG 2024 exam, ensuring that the students’ identities remain confidential.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud remarked, “What is happening is… the fact that there is a leak at Patna and Hazaribagh is admitted… the question papers had been disseminated. We want to ensure whether this was confined to those centres or widespread. Students are at a disadvantage because they don’t know their results. We want the students’ identities to be masked, but let us see the centre-wise mark pattern.”
