PTC News Desk: According to a copy of the letter acquired by AFP, Papua New Guinea notified the UN on Monday that over 2,000 people were buried in a large landslide that swept over a secluded community.
The national disaster center of the nation informed the UN headquarters in Port Moresby, the country’s capital, that “the landslide buried more than 2,000 people alive and caused major destruction.” A section of Mount Mungalo collapsed early on Friday morning, nearly erasing a once-vibrant isolated hillside community in Enga province and burying numerous homes along with their occupants.

“The landslip is still shifting slowly, making the situation unstable and putting both the rescue teams and the survivors in danger.” It stated that “immediate and collaborative actions from all players, including the army and national and regional responders, were required due to the scale of the catastrophe.”
It demanded that the UN notify “other international friends” and Papua New Guinea’s development partners of the most recent developments. It stated that the disaster center should be used to organize assistance.
