Manipur Crisis: Myanmar national’s arrest sparks claims of foreign involvement, says CM Biren Singh
Manipur Crisis: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stated on Monday that the recent arrest of a Myanmar national, linked to the Kuki National Army (Burma) (KNA-B), underscores the involvement of foreign elements in the ongoing Manipur crisis. The arrest, conducted by the Assam Rifles, highlights the international dimension of the conflict, according to Singh.
Speaking to reporters in Imphal, Singh acknowledged that initially, there was skepticism about the foreign involvement in the crisis. He praised the Assam Rifles for their role in apprehending the foreign national and uncovering evidence related to arms supply to militants in Manipur.
“As the Chief Minister, I have consistently maintained that the current crisis is exacerbated by foreign elements,” Singh affirmed.
The arrested individual, identified as Thanglinkap, a Myanmarese citizen born in Kolang, Khampat, Myanmar, was detained in Chandel district, Manipur. Thanglinkap, affiliated with the KNA (B), is accused of conducting reconnaissance missions and transporting arms from the Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh to the Kuki-dominated district of Churachandpur.

In related developments, the Manipur government has lifted the temporary suspension of internet and mobile data services in several districts, including Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching. The suspension, initially imposed as a precautionary measure to maintain public order, has been removed following a review of the law and order situation.
The government has also announced that normal classes will resume in all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, both private and government-aided, as well as central institutions. The government urged all internet users to avoid activities that could lead to future disruptions in internet services.
