Mamata Banerjee on Bangladesh crisis: ‘We will offer shelter if they seek it’
PTC News Desk: On Sunday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared that “if they come knocking on our doors,” the state government, which is governed by the Trinamool Congress, would grant refuge to individuals fleeing violence-stricken Bangladesh.
I am unable to discuss Bangladesh because it is a different nation. About that, the Indian government will talk. However, we will provide shelter to anyone in need if they (those from Bangladesh) knock on Bengal’s door. The UN has passed a resolution. “Refugees will be respected by neighbors,” Mamata Banerjee declared.
Leading Trinamool Congressman was speaking at a massive ‘Martyrs’ Day’ rally in Kolkata in the midst of a downpour.
“I assure all cooperation to Bengal residents whose relatives are stuck in violence-hit Bangladesh,” she stated.
Strict curfews have been implemented across in Bangladesh, and military forces have been patrolling areas of the capital city of Dhaka. This occurred during a nationwide outbreak of violence over the distribution of government jobs that resulted in over 40 fatalities and hundreds of injuries.
Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, was in attendance at the event and received praise from Mamata Banerjee for his party’s performance in the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections.
“The Central government won’t be in power for very long. This regime is unstable and will fall apart quickly,” the woman declared.
“The ‘Khel’ (game) you played in UP should have forced the BJP government (in UP) to resign, but the shameless government is continuing in power by misusing agencies and other means,” the Trinamool Congress said.
“The people of Bengal have fought with the BJP and left them behind; the same happened in Uttar Pradesh,” Akhilesh Yadav declared during the gathering. The members of the Delhi government hold power for a brief period of time. “Woh sarkaar girne wali hai, woh sarkaar chalne wali nahi hai” (meaning that the government won’t continue for long and would fall shortly).
