Lok Sabha Polls 2024 Phase 2 LIVE UPDATES: Voting begins for 88 constituencies; PM Modi calls for high voter turnout

Lok Sabha Polls 2024 Phase 2 LIVE UPDATES: The largest-ever election in history, voting for Lok Sabha Polls 2024 Phase 2 begins today in 88 constituencies spread across 13 states and Union Territories (UTs) amid tight security. 

Polling is taking place in various states across India. This includes all 20 seats in Kerala, 14 out of 28 seats in Karnataka, 13 seats in Rajasthan, eight seats each in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, six seats in Madhya Pradesh, five seats each in Assam and Bihar, three seats each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, and one seat each in Manipur, Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir.

Prominent candidates contesting in Lok Sabha Phase 2 includes – Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar from Thiruvananthapuram, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also contesting from Thiruvananthapuram, BJP’s Tejasvi Surya from Bengaluru South, Hema Malini from Mathura, Arun Govil from Meerut, Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad representing Congress, DK Suresh, the brother of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, from Bangalore Rural, former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy from Mandya, Independent candidate Pappu Yadav from Purnia, and CPI’s Annie Raja from Wayanad.

Notably, as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the third phase is scheduled to be held on May 7, fourth phase on May 13, fifth phase on May 20, sixth phase on May 25 and the last phase on June 1. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
