Jalandhar student grabs phone snatcher, dragged along road by bike
PTC News Desk: A Class 12 student, identified as Laxmi, sustained injuries after being dragged nearly 350 meters by a motorcycle when she attempted to thwart a phone snatching attempt in the Green Model Town area of Jalandhar. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon and has since been captured and widely circulated in a 44-second CCTV footage.
Laxmi, 18, originally from Gonda in Uttar Pradesh and currently residing in Green Model Town, was returning home with her younger sister and a neighbour’s daughter after a visit to her sister-in-law’s place. The trio noticed three men on a motorcycle observing them as they approached their home.
The motorcycle, driven by a man wearing a turban and carrying another individual who had his face covered with a handkerchief, stopped beside Laxmi. The man in the turban initially said, “Sorry,” which confused Laxmi and led her to momentarily hesitate. As the motorcycle began to move, the man seated behind tried to snatch Laxmi’s mobile phone.
Despite her struggle to retain her phone, Laxmi was forcibly dragged by the motorcycle as the snatchers sped away. Laxmi’s sister and nearby residents gave chase, but the assailants managed to overpower her and escape with the mobile phone.
Station House Officer (SHO) Sahil Chaudhary of Division Number 7 reported that the police have reviewed the CCTV footage and are using it to track down the suspects. An investigation is currently underway to apprehend the individuals involved in this brazen act.
