Indore hit-and-run: Speeding BMW driver caught rushing to deliver birthday cake

PTC News Desk: In a tragic hit-and-run case in Indore, two young women lost their lives after being struck by a speeding BMW that was driving in the wrong direction. Police investigations revealed that the driver was in a rush to deliver a birthday cake to a friend at the time of the accident.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Gajendra Pratap Singh, was arrested following a search operation by the Indore police. Singh, originally from Gwalior, had been residing in Indore’s Suncity area and was employed at a local BPO. The accident occurred in Indore’s Khajrana area on Sunday night. After the crash, Singh fled the scene, abandoning his car.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Kundan Mandloi stated, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was in a hurry to deliver a cake for his friend’s birthday, which is why he drove in the wrong direction.” Singh had recently purchased the BMW second-hand, and a case has been filed against him under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

Details of the Accident

The victims, Lakshmi Tomar (24) and Diksha Jadon (25), were riding a scooter when the accident occurred. They were returning home after attending a Ganesh temple fair in Khajrana on Sunday night. At around 11:30 p.m., Singh’s BMW, speeding in the wrong direction, collided with their scooter, throwing both women onto the road and causing severe injuries.

Eyewitnesses reported that the impact was devastating, and the victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, both women succumbed to their injuries shortly after.

Khajrana police station in-charge Manoj Singh Sendhav confirmed the details to PTI, stating, “A BMW car rammed into the scooter, and due to the impact, both women sustained critical injuries. They were taken to the hospital, but they did not survive.”

Victims’ Backgrounds

The accident has devastated the families of both victims. Lakshmi Tomar, originally from Shivpuri, had been working in Indore to support her family after her father’s passing last year. She was the sole breadwinner for her family, making her loss even more tragic.

Diksha Jadon, the second victim, was from Gwalior and worked at a public sector bank in Indore. Both women had promising futures ahead of them and were beloved by their families and communities.

The incident has shocked the local community and raised concerns about reckless driving and road safety. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case as the families of the victims call for justice.
