Indonesian woman found deceased inside 16-foot Python after three-day disappearance

PTC News Desk: An Indonesian woman who went missing has tragically been discovered dead inside a reticulated python in central Indonesia. The incident, reported by a local official to news agency AFP on Saturday, occurred in Kalempang village, South Sulawesi province.

The victim, identified as 45-year-old Farida, was found inside the python by her husband and fellow villagers. The snake, measuring approximately 5 meters (16 feet) in length, had swallowed her whole.

Farida had gone missing on Thursday night and failed to return home, prompting concern among her family and community. Village chief Suardi Rosi explained that a search operation was promptly initiated after her disappearance.

According to Rosi, Farida’s husband noticed her belongings in the vicinity, raising suspicions. Subsequently, villagers encountered the python with a noticeably distended belly during their search efforts.

In a grim discovery, upon cutting open the python’s stomach, Farida’s remains were found fully clothed. The incident underscores the rare yet harrowing reality of human fatalities caused by python attacks.

Indonesia has witnessed several similar tragedies in recent years. In 2023, residents in Tinanggea district, Southeast Sulawesi, encountered an eight-meter python, which was killed after it attacked and consumed a farmer in the village.

Similarly, in 2018, a 54-year-old woman was found dead inside a seven-meter python in Muna town, also located in Southeast Sulawesi. Additionally, in the preceding year, a farmer from West Sulawesi vanished, only to be later discovered devoured alive by a four-meter python on a palm oil plantation.

These incidents serve as grim reminders of the potential dangers posed by large pythons, highlighting the need for vigilance and precautionary measures in areas where such reptiles inhabit.
