IndiGo passenger high on ‘bhang’ attempts to open flight door mid-air, arrested

PTC News Desk: Just before the aircraft was set to land, a 29-year-old man was detained on suspicion of attempting to force open the door of an IndiGo flight headed for Hyderabad in midair. Though it was discovered on Friday, the incident is said to have occurred on May 21.

The passenger, a resident of Chandragirinagar in Gajularamaram, Hyderabad, is said to have eaten “bhang,” an edible cannabis plant preparation, prior to boarding the flight from Indore, according to the police, PTI said.

According to media accounts, the man started acting strangely and “weirdly” shortly after the IndiGo flight took off. He was moved to a new seat by the crew, but he insisted on sitting next to his two buddies who had accompanied him to Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

Then, just before landing, the traveler attempted to open the aircraft door. The police claimed that both co-passengers and airline employees attempted to stop him.

The passenger was arrested after the airline crew filed a complaint against him when the plane touched down at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. This led to the registration of a case against the passenger.

Nonetheless, the 29-year-old was given bail after the police received medical evidence indicating that the defendant had “health issues.”

Police at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) arrested a 22-year-old West Bengali man earlier this month for attempting to open a flight’s emergency exit door while it was in flight. The event is said to have happened on an IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Bengaluru.

The accused, Koushik Karan, was reportedly charged under Indian Penal Code section 336, which deals with risking the life or personal safety of others.

The accused stated throughout the investigation that this was his first time flying and that he was unaware of the regulations.
