Historic Achievement
The Indian hockey team’s bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics marks a significant milestone in the nation’s sports history. The team secured the medal by defeating Spain 2-1 in the bronze medal match. This win adds to India’s Olympic legacy, which includes four bronze medals in hockey, alongside eight gold and one silver medal. The team’s achievement also follows their bronze medal performance at the Tokyo Olympics, making it two consecutive Olympic medals in hockey for India—a feat not accomplished since the 1970s.
Previously, India won four consecutive hockey medals from 1960 to 1972, but did not secure any medals in the 1976 Games. The team claimed gold in 1980, making their recent success even more notable as it ends a 52-year gap in consecutive Olympic medals.
