Hezbollah members injured in Lebanon: Pager explosions reportedly cause hundreds of casualties
PTC News Desk: Hundreds of Hezbollah members, including both fighters and medics, sustained serious injuries on Tuesday when the pagers they use for communication unexpectedly exploded, according to a security source who spoke to Reuters.
The incident, described by a Hezbollah official as the “biggest security breach” the group has faced in nearly a year of conflict with Israel, has caused significant alarm within the organization. The explosions were reported to have occurred in various locations, with a Reuters journalist witnessing ambulances rapidly moving through the southern suburbs of Beirut amid widespread chaos. Residents reported that explosions continued to occur even 30 minutes after the initial blasts.
Groups of concerned individuals gathered outside buildings to check on acquaintances who might have been affected by the explosions. The security source further noted that similar incidents were also reported in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli military has not yet issued a response to the incident. This explosion comes amidst ongoing hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, which have been active since October of the previous year, alongside the ongoing Gaza conflict.
