PTC News Desk: Even though a quick downpour provided some relief to Delhi citizens seeking cover from the intense heat wave, the city is still extremely hot. Those who use their smartphones while working outside, such as professionals and regular people, are among those most severely affected.
With 1.6 million Instagram followers, tech influencer and expert Karan Lohiaa (@karanlohiaa_) states, “With the current weather, smartphones are particularly prone to overheating due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures.” Prolonged usage of high-performance apps, exposure to direct sunshine, and charging are common culprits.
Anil Kumar reports that there has been a noticeable rise in inquiries regarding overheated phones from his position at a service center and mobile repair business in Noida Sector 18’s Atta Market. In the past, there was an issue with select models from specific companies, and we would always inform the buyer that this issue is normal. However, now that you have a phone, you can see that it is not working. Consumers seek out thin back covers, khaskar charging ke time, jinmein zyada garam na ho.
Cooling takes 20 to 25 minutes once hot
Mr. Tikku, a food influencer, Gurpreet Singh Tikku (@mistertikku) says, “We work outdoors most of the time. And as it was recording, the phone was heating up. It’s difficult enough to shoot outside due to the sun’s intense glare, which makes it impossible to view the screen or guarantee good video quality. Even the phone unexpectedly overheats.
The only thing to do in such a situation is to wait it out till the gadget cools down. But these days, it takes 20 to 25 minutes just to let a smartphone cool off. With 206K Instagram followers, Tikku bemoans, “The only thing we can do is borrow a phone from one of my team members to resume shooting! We now need hardware that can handle Dilli ki bhayankar garmi!”
Deeksha Mishra (@deekshamishra official), a mom influencer from Gurugram, agrees: “I wonder if the new phones aren’t equipped for it — or if it’s just an issue with the model of the phone that I’m using.” However, my colleagues claim that even their tried-and-true brands aren’t working right now. Even while Mishra uses DSLRs for the majority of her assignments, she notes that issues still arise. “Only a phone is used to shoot the organic material! And it gets really hot both when charging and when filming. I’ve never had this problem before, so that’s when it bothers me,” adds Mishra, who has 428K Instagram followers.
Some others, such as gamers who don’t have to shoot outside or deal with extreme heat, also admit that they find it hard to confine themselves to small, air-conditioned locations within buildings in order to keep their phones operating in high-performance modes. Raj Varma (@snaxgaming), who has 1.1 followers, says, “I use a small table fan to manage the heat generated from continuous use on my handheld device while live streaming or while competing in online and at LAN tournaments.”
Here’s What to Do:
- Keep Your Phone Cool: Avoid direct sunlight to protect battery life and performance. When outdoors, place your phone in a shaded area whenever possible.
- Use Appropriate Covers: Avoid heavy or insulated covers as they can impede heat dissipation during prolonged use.
- Activate Power-Saving Mode: This mode disables background apps and helps manage heat and battery usage.
- Lower Screen Brightness: Reducing screen brightness can significantly decrease heat generation.
- Optimize Performance: Clear cache and delete apps that are not regularly used to maintain optimal performance.
- Turn Off Unnecessary Features: Disable GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi when not in use. Use airplane mode if you’re not making calls.
- Use Original Chargers: Only use chargers that are compatible with your phone to prevent battery deterioration.
- Cool Down Naturally: Let your phone cool down naturally. Avoid drastic measures like putting it in the fridge or submerging it in water, as sudden temperature changes can cause the screen to crack or damage hardware.
