HCL employee dies of cardiac arrest in office washroom in Nagpur

PTC News Desk: In a heartbreaking incident, a 40-year-old employee of HCL Technologies suffered a fatal cardiac arrest while in the washroom of the company’s office in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The incident occurred on Friday when Nitin Edwin Michael, a senior analyst, went to the restroom and was later found unresponsive.
According to officials from the Sonegaon police station, Nitin was quickly transported to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Nagpur. Unfortunately, medical personnel declared him dead upon arrival.
Following the incident, Nitin’s body was sent for a postmortem examination. Initial autopsy findings indicated that the cause of death was indeed cardiac arrest, leading the police to register a case of accidental death.
Nitin Edwin Michael is survived by his wife and their six-year-old son. The police have initiated further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

In response to this unfortunate incident, HCL Technologies expressed its condolences and emphasised its commitment to employee wellbeing. The company described the event as a ‘tragic loss’ and stated that they are providing all possible assistance to the grieving family.
“This is an unfortunate incident and a tragic loss. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased employee and are providing all possible assistance to them. In this incident, the employee was provided emergency support at the campus healthcare clinic and rushed to the hospital. The wellbeing of our people is of utmost priority, and HCLTech provides healthcare programs for all its employees and their families, including on-campus clinics and annual preventive health checks,” the company said in an official statement.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of workplace health and safety, and the need for accessible healthcare facilities within corporate environments. The company and local authorities are continuing to address the situation and support Nitin’s family during this difficult time.
