Haryana grants 10% quota for Agniveers in police and mining guard positions

PTC News Desk: In the midst of a growing dispute between the Centre and the Opposition over the Agnipath plan, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stated on Wednesday that 10 per cent of police and mine guard positions have been reserved for Agniveers. 

 The choice is made months before the state’s election. 

The Agnipath programme, which was introduced in 2022, allows for the temporary induction of individuals into the armed services. The induction process lasts for four years for those in the 17.5–21 age range. A clause states that 25 per cent of these new hires will be kept on for an additional 15 years.

As their employment ends, the remainder will receive a compensation payout. Agniveers are the people hired under the plan.

The Chief Minister claimed that the Congress was misrepresenting the programme and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plan was excellent since it produced young people with skills.

According to Mr. Saini, there would be a three-year age relaxation for postings in Group C and D. “However, in the first batch of Agniveers, this age relaxation will be five years,” stated Mr. Saini. According to the Chief Minister, if a private company pays an Agniveer a wage of Rs 30,000, the government will provide the company with an annual subsidy of Rs 60,000.
