‘Do not mourn if I have to sacrifice my life…’ Arvind Kejriwal ahead of surrender in Delhi excise policy case
New Delhi, May 31: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be surrendering at 3 pm on Sunday as his interim bail in the Delhi excise policy case is coming to an end.
Addressing mediapersons, Arvind Kejriwal said, “We are fighting against tyranny, and if I have to sacrifice my life for the country, do not mourn.”
Arvind Kejriwal also made a mention about his deteriorating health during his previous 50-day imprisonment. The Delhi CM said he had a significant weight loss and also had no diabetes medication. “I was in jail for 50 days, and in those 50 days, I lost 6 kilos… Even after being released, I have not regained my weight,” he said, adding that doctors were now concerned about his health.
Despite these challenges, Arvind Kejriwal said the welfare of Delhi residents remained his priority. He assured that key services, including free electricity, Mohalla clinics, hospitals, free medicines, and free bus travel for women, would continue. “Even though I won’t be among you, do not worry. All your work will continue,” he reassured.
Kejriwal also made an emotional appeal for his elderly parents, urging the public to pray for their well-being. “My parents are very old… If you pray for my mother daily, she will surely remain healthy,” he said.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a corruption case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy case. The probe agency alleges that Kejriwal played a crucial role in drafting the policy and soliciting bribes in exchange for liquor licenses. It claims the AAP received kickbacks of ₹100 crore, which were allegedly used to fund election campaigns in Goa and Punjab.
The AAP and Kejriwal have denied all charges, calling the arrest and case “political vendetta,” especially coming just weeks before an election. The arrest has intensified the political confrontation between the ruling BJP and the opposition INDIA bloc, led by the Congress and including the AAP.
