PTC News Desk: After all departing flights were moved to Terminals 2 (T2) and 3 (T3), Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu visited the Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) to assess the current situation and passenger handling in the wake of the deadly roof collapse at Terminal 1 (T1) of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi.
Naidu convened a meeting with high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), and airline representatives. The goal of the discussions was to guarantee a seamless passenger experience and efficient operations during this time of change.
“The DGCA confirmed the activation of war rooms, facilitating close coordination between DIAL and the airlines,” Naidu said in a post to X.
This will guarantee prompt correspondence and tackle any obstacles resulting from the heightened passenger traffic at T2 and T3.
The Union Minister emphasized throughout the meeting how crucial it is to uphold the highest standards of passenger safety. According to Naidu, all parties involved should put the welfare of passengers first and cooperate to ensure a smooth travel experience.
The study was prompted by last Friday’s intense rains, which caused part of the canopy over the T1 departure area to cave in. A taxi driver lost his life in the incident, while multiple other persons were hurt.

Delhi Police has filed a First Information Report (FIR) under the clauses pertaining to death by carelessness. To ascertain the precise reason behind the fall, investigations are still underway.
T1 is still closed as officials finish clearing debris and conducting a thorough structural evaluation. As of right now, T2 and T3 are the departure points for all flights.
Naidu had announced sending a special team from the structural engineering department of IIT Delhi for a preliminary assessment in an effort to stop similar disasters in the future. Additionally, he gave airlines instructions to make sure there isn’t an unusual spike in airfare.
“We have requested inspection reports from every airport in the nation over the next two to five days in order to prevent a recurrence of this kind of disaster. We will take the appropriate steps to stop these occurrences in light of these reports,” he had earlier stated.
