PTC News Desk: As Jharkhand gears up for its upcoming assembly elections, the BJP has launched a critical campaign titled “Mila Kya,” meaning “What was achieved?” This initiative is aimed at scrutinising the performance of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led government, headed by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The campaign highlights the discrepancies between the promises made by the current administration and their actual delivery on key issues.
The Essence of ‘Mila Kya’
The BJP’s ‘Mila Kya’ campaign serves as a reality check on the JMM government’s promises. Through this campaign, the BJP seeks to create awareness among the people of Jharkhand about the gaps in governance. The tagline encourages voters to reflect on what they have received in terms of development and governance from the Soren administration, questioning whether the promises made have been truly fulfilled.
Key Focus Areas
The campaign specifically targets a number of unfulfilled promises that were made by the JMM government during its tenure:
- Youth Employment: Chief Minister Hemant Soren had promised to provide 1 lakh jobs to the youth within his first year in office. The BJP points out that this target remains unmet, with many young people still facing unemployment across the state. The campaign emphasizes the negative impact this broken promise has had on the aspirations and futures of Jharkhand’s youth.
- Farm Loan Waiver: Another major commitment was to waive farm loans up to ₹2 lakh to ease the financial burden on farmers. According to the BJP, the actual relief provided by the government has been limited to only ₹50,000, far short of the initial promise. This discrepancy, they argue, reflects the government’s lack of commitment to the farming community.
- Free Education and Healthcare: The promise of free education and healthcare for all was a significant point in the JMM’s election manifesto. While certain schemes have been introduced, the BJP contends that these efforts have been inadequate in reaching the broader population, leaving many without access to these essential services.
- Industrial Development: The JMM government had pledged to attract industries and boost economic growth in Jharkhand. However, the BJP criticizes the administration for making minimal progress in this area, pointing to the lack of significant industrial investments and the resulting shortage of job opportunities for the state’s workforce.
- Corruption-Free Governance: Soren’s government came to power with a promise to eliminate corruption. The BJP argues that various corruption scandals have continued to surface during his tenure, eroding public trust in the government. This is cited as a major failure in the administration’s promise of clean governance.
- Land Law Amendments: Land rights have been a sensitive issue in Jharkhand, particularly concerning tribal land. The BJP criticizes the JMM’s indecision on land law amendments, specifically regarding the use of tribal land for commercial purposes. They claim that the government’s ambiguous stance has created uncertainty, hindering both tribal welfare and economic development.
- Incomplete Liquor Ban: Another election promise was the imposition of a complete liquor ban in Jharkhand. The BJP points out that the ban has only been partially implemented, limited to certain areas rather than being state-wide. This is used as another example of the government’s failure to fulfill its commitments.
- CBI Inquiry into Starvation Deaths: The JMM had promised to initiate a CBI inquiry into starvation deaths, a pressing issue in some parts of Jharkhand. The BJP argues that no significant progress has been made in this regard, and the issue of hunger remains largely unaddressed by the current government.
Through its ‘Mila Kya’ campaign, the BJP seeks to hold the JMM government accountable for its promises and actions. By focusing on key areas such as youth employment, industrial development, and corruption-free governance, the BJP hopes to sway voters by questioning the achievements of the Hemant Soren administration. The campaign sets the stage for a heated political contest as Jharkhand heads towards the assembly elections.
