Bibhav Kumar sent to four-day judicial custody in Swati Maliwal assault case
New Delhi, May 24: Delhi Tis Hazari Court on Friday sent Bibhav Kumar, a close aide of Arvind Kejrwal, to four days judicial custody in the alleged Swati Maliwal assault case. He will be produced in the court on May 28.
Arvind Kejriwal’s personal aide, Bibhav Kumar, was arrested from the Chief Minister’s residence on Saturday and subsequently placed in five-day police custody. Kumar’s lawyer filed an application requesting the preservation of CCTV footage and DVR, a move contested by the Delhi Police, who argued against the petition’s dismissal citing pending trial proceedings.
On Wednesday, the Delhi Police brought Bibhav Kumar back from Mumbai, where he had been taken the previous day for data recovery from his iPhone, which had allegedly been formatted before his arrest. The police suspect that Kumar formatted his phone after transferring its data to another person or device in Mumbai. Kumar’s phones, laptop, and CCTV recordings from Arvind Kejriwal’s residence have been sent for forensic examination.
Bibhav Kumar was also taken to recreate the alleged crime scene. Interrogations have been conducted, and statements from approximately 20 persons have been recorded in connection to the Swati Maliwal assault case.
