Bengal train accident: PM Modi condoles loss of lives, says rescue operation on war footing
PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his sympathies to the families of those who died in this morning’s train tragedy in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal. He has also said that he has spoken to officials to assess the situation, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is also scheduled to visit the scene. The PM expressed his sadness about the collision and said he was praying for the injured parties to heal quickly.

A compensation of Rs 50,000 for the injured and Rs 2 lakh for each of the families of the deceased has also been provided by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Eight persons were killed and at least twenty-five injured when the Kanchanjunga Express, which was traveling from Silchar, Assam, to Sealdah in Kolkata, was struck from behind by a goods train near Rangapani station, which is close to New Jalpaiguri. Three of the victims were Railway employees. When traveling to Darjeeling, travelers from various states use the crowded New Jalpaiguri railway station.
