PTC News Desk: Arvinder Singh Lovely, the Delhi Congress president, has tendered his resignation from his position, party sources confirmed on Sunday. “The Delhi Congress Unit firmly stood against aligning with a party that has been founded on the sole basis of propagating baseless and malicious corruption charges against the Congress. Despite our reservations, the decision was made to form an alliance with the AAP in Delhi,” stated Arvinder Singh Lovely in his resignation letter.
This development is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as the situation unfolds. Please stay tuned for more information.
Lovely assumed the post in August last year
The seat-sharing arrangement for the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi between AAP and Congress was finalized in February. AAP is contesting four seats, while Congress has candidates in three constituencies.
AAP is contesting in New Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi, and East Delhi, while Chandni Chowk, North East Delhi, and North West Delhi have Congress candidates.
Earlier, AAP offered Congress only one of the seven Lok Sabha seats, leading to a deadlock in discussions.
In the last two Lok Sabha elections in 2014 and 2019, BJP won all seven seats in Delhi with a vote share exceeding 50 percent. The relationship between the two parties soured after AAP declared it would contest all 14 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab and Chandigarh alone.
Lovely’s resignation comes shortly after former Delhi minister and AICC member Rajkumar Chauhan resigned from the party following an altercation with AICC Delhi in-charge Deepak Babria.
Chauhan submitted his resignation on Wednesday morning after the Delhi Congress’ disciplinary committee meeting on Tuesday left it to the AICC to decide on action regarding complaints against him.
This is a developing story. Please stay tuned for updates.
