Arvind Kejriwal seeks 7-day extension of interim bail from Supreme Court
PTC News Desk: Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, has petitioned the Supreme Court for an extension of seven days’ interim bail in a money laundering case involving the excise policy scandal. According to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), this prolongation is needed in order to have PET-CT scans and other medical tests.
The AAP supremo was granted temporary bail by the Supreme Court till June 1, the final day of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections. On June 2, the court ordered him to turn himself in and go back to jail.
The AAP national convenor was questioned extensively by an ED team at his residence on March 21, after which he was taken into custody in relation to the Delhi excise policy issue. The ruling party in the Capital suffered a serious blow from this, particularly as major figures like Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain were already in jail due to corruption charges and Sanjay Singh had just been released on bond.
Kejriwal calls the excise policy case “wholly fictitious”
Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, claimed on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called the excise policy issue “completely fake” and demanded the release of all individuals detained in connection with it.
Kejriwal alleged in a virtual press conference that he, Sanjay Singh, and Manish Sisodia were all charged by the BJP with being part of a scheme involving the Delhi Excise Policy for 2021–2022. He claimed that no proof of misconduct had been discovered despite more than 500 raids carried out around the country and multiple arrests.
“The prime minister has said that no evidence was found because Kejriwal is ‘an experienced thief’,” he stated.
First-ever hearing from a prisoner: Rajnath Singh responds
On Sunday, Rajnath Singh, the minister of defence, took a jibe at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, stating that although he was aware of the idea of “work from home,” he had never heard of “work from jail.”
Singh claimed, accusing Delhi CM of being involved in a corruption scheme. “We know about work from office, I have heard about work from home, but this is the first time I am hearing about work from jail,” Singh said.
