Arvind Kejriwal appoints Atishi to raise the flag on August 15
PTC News Desk: Atishi, the senior-most minister in Delhi, will raise the national flag at the Independence Day celebration on August 15, according to a letter Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, according to people with knowledge of the situation on Wednesday.
The officials declared that Atishi would raise the flag in Kejriwal’s place. Kejriwal was arrested for suspected irregularities in the now-canceled 2021–22 excise policy, and since then, he has been incarcerated.
Early in 2023, after deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia resigned a few weeks after being arrested in connection with the excise policy issue, Atishi was named minister. Every year on Independence Day, the chief minister of Delhi hoists the flag at Chhatrasal Stadium. Since 2015, Kejriwal has raised the flag at official Delhi government events.
March 21 saw the arrest of Kejriwal. With the exception of the time he was released on temporary bond during the Lok Sabha elections in May, he has been incarcerated ever since.
