AP Dhillon speaks out: ‘How could her fate end so tragically?’ – Punjabi singer condemns Kolkata doctor’s murder
PTC News Desk: The country has been outraged by the horrifying rape and murder of the 31-year-old doctor in Kolkata. Singer AP Dhillon from Punjab was one of those who expressed his disappointment and rage over the heinous incident.
“Woke up today wanting to let my thoughts out the only way I know how,” the Indo-Canadian artist posted on his Instagram stories on Friday. He performed a song against the rape-murder of a doctor in Kolkata alongside a video. He embellished it with sad emoticons as well.
In the song, he spoke on the inherent strength of women, the failures of society, and his desire for justice for the victim. Dhillon can be heard singing the line, “She has saved many lives and souls,” in the video. God, how could this terrible conclusion to her fate? Even in a place where everyone knew her, she was not safe. Is it a curse to be born a girl in this world, as we all question you today?
“Despite the women who have changed the world, society has not changed in their direction. Despite their immense contributions, society has not advanced much at all. What was done twelve years ago is still being done. Why is the Women’s March still necessary?
The nation has been emboldened and humiliated by the news of the rape and murder of a female doctor who was undergoing training at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, sparking protests and strikes all throughout the nation.
Nationwide demonstrations have broken out in the name of justice and tougher legislation against crimes against women.
A post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor, age 31, was discovered dead inside the government-run RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata on Friday, August 9. On August 10, a community volunteer was taken into custody in relation to the matter. On Tuesday, August 13, the Calcutta High Court gave the matter over to the CBI.
Thousands of people from all walks of life, including professionals, homemakers, and students, staged a dramatic march in Kolkata’s streets on Wednesday night, August 14. They marched together, brandishing placards and carrying torches that were on fire, calling for an end to violence against women. Similar demonstrations that demonstrated national unity also broke out in other significant cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and others.
