Anurag Thakur’s ‘caste’ comment sparks controversy, Rahul Gandhi accuses him of verbal abuse
PTC News Desk: On Tuesday’s caste census controversy erupted in the Lok Sabha when BJP MP Anurag Thakur made a subtle jab at Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. “The one whose caste is not known is talking about the census,” Thakur stated.
Rasul Gandhi interrupted Thakur’s speech after the “caste” statement caused a ruckus in the House, telling him, “You can insult me as much as you want, but you should not forget that we will get the caste census bill passed in Parliament.”
However, Anurag Thakur clarified that he did not mention any names in his statement. The Lok Sabha’s presiding officer, Jagdambika Pal, made an effort to maintain order in the House. The MPs persisted in expressing their displeasure, though.

“Whoever in this country speaks for the downtrodden, fights for them, they have to take abuses from others,” Rahul Gandhi stated among the clamour. I’ll gladly accept all of the abuse. Like Arjun in the Mahabharata, all I can see is the eye of the fish. We’ll complete the caste census. And that’s it. You are free to mistreat me as often as you wish.
He stated that Anurag Thakur “abused him and insulted him,” yet he refused to accept Anurag Thakur’s apology. It’s not necessary for me.”
Leader of the Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav also interjected, posing the question, “How can you inquire someone’s caste? Nobody’s caste may be inquired about.”
