Air India fined Rs 98 lakh by DGCA for operating flights with ‘non-qualified’ pilots
PTC News Desk: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has fined Air India Rs 98 lakh for operating flights with unqualified crew members, according to a statement from the aviation regulator. Additionally, the DGCA imposed penalties of Rs 6 lakh and Rs 3 lakh on Air India’s Director of Operations and Director of Training, respectively.
In its statement, the DGCA noted, “The concerned pilot has been warned to exercise caution to prevent such occurrences in the future. Air India operated a flight with a non-trainer line captain paired with a first officer who was not released for line duties. This incident has been deemed a serious scheduling violation with significant safety implications.”
The issue was brought to the DGCA’s attention through a voluntary report submitted by Air India on July 10. Following this report, the DGCA conducted an investigation and uncovered multiple violations of regulatory provisions by several key personnel and staff at the airline.
