Ahead of LS polls, major setback to Haryana BJP as three Independent MLAs withdraw support

Chandigarh, May 7: In a significant blow to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, three Independent MLAs on Tuesday announced their withdrawal of support to the government led by Nayab Singh Saini.

Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Gollen and Dharampal Gonder made their decision public during a press conference convened in Rohtak. Their announcement was made in the presence of prominent figures, including former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state Congress chief Udai Bhan.

Dharampal Gonder said, “We are withdrawing support to the government and extending our allegiance to the Congress. This decision has been made after careful consideration of various issues, particularly those concerning farmers.”

Udai Bhan highlighted the implications of this political shift, saying, “The three Independent MLAs – Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Singh Gollen, and Dharampal Gonder – have formally withdrawn their support from the BJP-led government and have pledged their support to the Congress.”

He further emphasised the dwindling strength of the BJP in the Haryana Assembly, indicating a potential crisis for the ruling party. “With the present composition of the Haryana Assembly standing at 88 members, of which the BJP commands 40 seats, it is evident that the Saini government is now operating as a minority government,” said Bhan. He added, “Given this scenario, Nayab Singh Saini should tender his resignation, as he no longer possesses the mandate to govern.”

Calling for immediate action, Bhan urged the authorities to conduct the Assembly elections without delay to address the prevailing political uncertainty.
