Arvind Kejriwal leaves CM residence for new address at Bungalow No. 5 in Lutyens’ Delhi

PTC News Desk: Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is set to relocate to a new residence as he moves into Bungalow Number 5 on Ferozeshah Road in Lutyens’ Delhi today. This transition comes just days after he resigned from his position as chief minister.

Kejriwal will be living with his family in the newly allotted bungalow, which is conveniently located near the AAP headquarters. The bungalow was originally designated for Ashok Mittal, the party’s Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab.

Meanwhile, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has shifted to a bungalow on Rajendra Prasad Road, which serves as the official residence for another AAP Rajya Sabha MP, Harbhajan Singh.

During a press conference, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj confirmed, “Kejriwal will move into the residence of AAP MP from Punjab Ashok Mittal today.” He also mentioned that several party leaders, including MPs, MLAs, and councillors, offered their homes to Kejriwal after he announced his departure from his previous residence at 6 Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines, where he had lived since becoming chief minister in 2015.

In a heartfelt video message, Ashok Mittal expressed his joy at Kejriwal’s decision to accept his invitation to stay at his home. “When he (Kejriwal) resigned as the chief minister, I learned that he had no place to stay. I invited him to be my guest at my Delhi residence, and I am delighted that he has accepted my request,” Mittal stated.

Kejriwal’s relocation comes at a pivotal time as he is expected to spearhead AAP’s campaign for the upcoming elections in Delhi and other states while residing in the New Delhi area, which is also his assembly constituency.

His recent resignation as chief minister followed his release from Tihar Jail, where he had been incarcerated for over five months in connection with the alleged excise policy scam. He has stated that he plans to return to the chief minister’s office only after earning a “certificate of honesty” from the electorate during the Delhi assembly elections scheduled for February of next year.

Kejriwal’s former residence at 6 Flagstaff Road faced criticism from the BJP, who derisively referred to it as “Sheesh Mahal” due to alleged irregularities in its renovation.

After his resignation, Sisodia moved with his family from the AB-17 bungalow on Mathura Road, which had previously been allocated to him. Following Sisodia’s arrest in the excise policy case in March 2023, the bungalow was reassigned to Atishi, the current chief minister.

Atishi continues to live in her residence in the Kalkaji constituency, even after taking office, while Sisodia and his family remain in the Mathura Road bungalow. The specifics of Atishi’s new residence, which has yet to be finalized, are still under consideration; she may retain the Mathura Road address or potentially relocate to the 6 Flagstaff Road bungalow, as indicated by party leaders.
