India vs Bangladesh 1st Test Day 2: Akash Deep claims victory in two matches, sends coach Gautam Gambhir off his seat
India vs Bangladesh 1st Test Day 2: In a thrilling display of bowling, Akash Deep delivered two crucial breakthroughs for India, dismissing Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque, leaving Bangladesh struggling at 26/3 at Lunch on Day 2 of the first Test in Chennai. With the loss of three wickets, Bangladesh now relies on Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim to forge a strong partnership and provide some stability against the Indian attack.
Earlier, India had been bundled out for 376 runs, following a remarkable partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored 113 runs, and Ravindra Jadeja, who contributed 86 runs. Resuming the day at 339/6, India lost Jadeja and Akash Deep to the pace of Taskin Ahmed, while Jasprit Bumrah was dismissed by Hasan Mahmud, who achieved a five-wicket haul.
On the second day of the match, Team India initially built on their Day 1 lead, but Bangladesh capitalized on the second new ball, taking the last four wickets for just 37 runs. The dismissal of Ravindra Jadeja, who was aiming for his fifth Test century, proved critical for the Bangladeshi bowlers. Ashwin, after a stellar performance on the first day, was also caught trying to accelerate the scoring, ultimately finishing his innings at 112 runs.
The second day’s play was brief but impactful. Team India entered the innings with a lead of 339 runs at the Chepauk Stadium. Jadeja had started strong but fell short of a century, caught in the slip by fast bowler Taskin Ahmed in just the third over of the day. Jadeja ended his innings at 86 runs, while Akash Deep added a quick 17 runs before falling to Taskin, who continued his impressive bowling performance by dismissing Ashwin shortly after.
The star of the day was undoubtedly Hasan Mahmud, whose five-wicket haul was instrumental in Bangladesh’s bowling success. At just 24 years old and playing in only his fourth Test match, Mahmud’s performance included four crucial wickets on the first day and a final blow by dismissing Bumrah, solidifying his reputation as a rising star in international cricket.
With India all out within an hour and a half into the second day, Bangladesh faces an uphill battle. The young bowlers have set a challenging tone for the remainder of the series, as India looks to maintain its momentum and build on its early advantage in the match.
