PTC News Desk: A senior Amazon employee has recently made headlines after disclosing on the anonymous professional forum Blind that he has been earning a substantial salary while performing minimal work for over a year and a half. The post, titled “1.5 years with 0 work done at Amazon. How much longer will I last?” has garnered significant attention.
The individual, identified as a Senior Technical Program Manager, shared that he joined Amazon after being laid off from Google with the specific intention of doing “nothing.” His total annual compensation reportedly amounts to $370,000, equivalent to approximately Rs 3.1 crore.

Minimal Contribution, Maximum Pay
According to the post, the employee has only completed seven support tickets and created one automated dashboard since his arrival at Amazon. The dashboard, he admitted, was developed using ChatGPT in just three days but was presented as a three-month project.
His daily routine, as described in the post, involves attending meetings and deliberately avoiding additional work by declining requests from other teams. He mentioned, “My current day-to-day is saying no to other teams wanting to integrate with my team,” emphasising his role in ensuring that other teams handle the majority of the workload.

Social Media Debate
The employee’s confession has sparked a widespread debate on social media, with reactions ranging from criticism to sympathy. Some users condemned the employee’s behaviour, arguing that it undermines work ethics and fairness in the workplace.
One user on X commented, “These people are ruining the game for everyone else that actually wants to work and earn an honest day’s pay.”
Others viewed the situation as indicative of broader issues within corporate structures. A user remarked, “When the game is rigged, exploit the game,” suggesting that inefficiencies and bureaucratic failings are common in large organisations like Amazon.
Several individuals shared their own experiences, pointing out that organisational inefficiencies often lead to similar scenarios. One user wrote, “I worked a job where I knew I was working on a product that would eventually be shut down. I put in almost no effort and no one cared.”
As of now, Amazon has not issued any official statement regarding the employee’s claims, leaving the situation open to further speculation and discussion about work culture and employee productivity in major tech companies.
